Differences between: Category, Attribute, and Options

Categories:

  • Categories are used to group products together that may have similar uses or belong to similar descriptions.

  • You can create a category to help customers search for related products, or to narrow down lists of products to help them find what they are looking for.

  • An example of this could be a category labeled “Kitchen”. Products you may find inside it are mixers, cookware, etc.

Attributes:

  • This function is used for specifications you would like listed for individual products.

  • Examples of this could be weight, dimensions, or custom attributes such as color or finish.

Options:

  • This function is used to create Master/Child relationships and product listings.

  • Good to use if you have a product that comes in different colors or sizes.

  • Allows you to use a single Master product listing to create and manage additional product listings.
