How to use Master and Child Products


This article will show you how to use the Options tab within a product listing. This tab allows you to create variations of a product based upon option sets you create. The original listing becomes the Master product, and any variations are Child products. On your website a Child product will appear as options on the Master product’s listing.


  1. Within the product edit screen, Click the Options Tab. See image below:




  1. Click the blue +Insert button.
  1. The Option Set fields will appear. You can add as many different option sets as needed. See image below:




  1. Create a Title in the Option Set field.
  1. Some examples are color, dimensions, and style.
  1. In the Options field below the Set, enter the variant specifications.
  1. Some examples are red, 20 inches, and shabby chic.
  1. To add additional variants within an option set, Click the blue + icon next to Options. This will create new fields for variants. See image below:




  1. In the top right, Click Save and Continue.
  2. Your Option set and its variants will appear as a drop down box at the bottom of the screen. See image below:




  1. To create Child products based on your Option Sets automatically, Click Generate SKU For All Possible Options.
  1. A confirmation pop-up window will appear. Click Yes. See image below:




  1. The page will refresh, and the Child Products section will appear with the different combinations of your Master Product and Option Sets. See image below:




Note: Please note that you will need to update images and stock locations/inventory for each child product.
